Client: Tees Valley Bus Network Improvement Project

Following hot on the somewhat colourful wheels of our stained glass cars in Durham and Singapore, we were approached by Middlesbrough Bus Station to come up with ideas to enhance their existing space to create a memorable welcome for visitors and locals.

The final design aims to change the way we look at our everyday environment by casting a simple wash of colour over a functional space. Each colour is suggestive of a particular theme and idea relevant to Middlesbrough – the use of green for example highlights our move towards sustainable transportation whilst orange suggests optimism as we look to the future. A skyline of Middlesbrough’s key landmarks applied as a white silhouette to the building’s main windows combines with the various colours to present a brighter bus station for everyone to enjoy.

The name of the installation ‘Middlesbrough Brought to Life’ was chosen by Zahra Arif of Green Lane Primary School through her winning entry to a Middlesbrough-wide colouring competition. We will be carrying out a stained glass overlay workshop with Zahra and her fellow pupils as part of the project.
